The company was incorporated as Associated Sugar Mills Limited on October 04, 1993. In the year 1998, The Adlakha family, along with their associates, acquired 100% shareholding in the Company from the erstwhile promoters and gained overall control of the Company. Subsequently, the name of Company was changed to Uttam Sugar Mills Limited w.e.f. November 24, 1998. Now, Uttam Sugar Mills Limited, a part of the 'Uttam Group', is one of the leading integrated sugarcane processing companies, with its corporate office at Noida, (U.P.) India.
The Company has four sugar plants, which are located in the northern India, one in the state of Uttrakhand viz. Libberheri and three in the state of Uttar Pradesh viz. Barkatpur, Shermau, and Khaikheri. These plants have an aggregate sugarcane crushing capacity of about 23,750 TCD. Three of the four sugar units produce 100% "Sulphurless Sugar" using the "Defecomelt" process instead of the conventional "Double Sulphidation". The company also exports 30MW of clean, "zero carbon footprint" power from co-generation using left-over bagasse, and is starting operations of its first distillery in 2011.
